Car Hire at Abidjan Airport
Felix Houphouet Boigny International Airport (ABJ) serves the Ivory Coast with local and international flights. You can find multiple major car rental companies located within the airport that also have locations within Abidjan. Rent a car in the Abidjan Airport from Road Star, Selv, Factor Express, Hertz, or Notice from their offices outside of the airport's international terminal. It's easy to collect and drop off your car in the airport car park.
Driving in Abidjan
You may encounter dirt roads or poorly maintained areas while driving in the Ivory Coast, so renting a 4WD car is recommended if you are driving beyond Abidjan. Abidjan itself has relatively well-maintained streets and plenty of traffic lights. St. Paul's Cathedral, a popular tourist destination, can be found 35 minutes from the airport. You can also visit the upper-class Cocody neighbourhood, which also contains the Presidential Tower and the Hôtel Ivoire. There can be a lot of traffic, so sometimes going by foot and public transport is your best option. In addition, military checkpoints throughout the city can slow down your travel speeds. Traffic rules are not strictly enforced at night, so watch for people rolling through red lights.
Parking in Abidjan
As with any major city, parking can sometimes be challenging to find. Some hotels charge for parking, so keep that in your budget if you hire a car in Abidjan. Parking rules can be a little fast and loose, so your main priority should be keeping your rental car in good shape. It can be easier to take public transport or a taxi to destinations like restaurants during high-traffic times. Ask your car rental company about areas that have the best parking. You should be able to park off of the main boulevards on the street.

Stop in the Yopougon neighbourhood to try a variety of delicious street food. The Reserve Naturelle du Banco is a gorgeous rainforest reserve that requires at least a couple of hours to fully enjoy.
