Sinaia is one of the most popular and scenic of towns in the Carpathian Mountains. Sinaia grew up along the Orient Express and you can still easily get there by train from Bucharest. The highlight of the town itself is Peles Castle, which sits on a lovely wooded estate on the outskirts of town. Winter or summer, take the gondola up to the ski resort for phenomenal mountain views.
Great place to see - the views are nice, the people are great and there are some terrific old places to see on a stopover or a few day visit. We really enjoyed it here. The Palace Hotel was great - by Romanian standards - we really enjoyed it and we stayed here off season during the early summer.
The town was named after Sinaia Monastery, around which it was built; the monastery in turn is named after the Biblical Mount Sinai. King Carol I of Romania built his summer home, Peleş Castle, near the town.
