Lodz is an interestingly industrial city that has done quite a bit to modernize itself in recent years. There are some funky little cafes that pay tribute to the Polish avant garde theater tradition (Grotowski and co.) and a big museum/shopping complex that holds rotating exhibitions. The main street is pedestrianized and full of interesting cafes, restaurants and shops. The thing I was most surprised/impressed by however? The really high quality of Polish pastry, from almost any little hole in the wall shop.
