Kluang district is located about 110 kilometers north of Johor Bahru. The name "Keluang" means a type of flying fox which used to be plentiful in district until decades ago when hunting and deforestation have destroyed most of their natural habitat. Visitors can take leisure walks or bicycle tour at the Zenxin Organic Park or stroll through the Kahang Low Rise tea plantation.
I spent several months in Malaysia and home based in Kluang. What I remember most is getting off the plane in Singapore and feeling the heat envelope me. Every morning in Kluang the men from the Mosque would chant a song like melody welcoming the day. Everything was quiet until the song ended then the birds would chirp, the bells of bicycles would start to ring, and finally the laughter of the children on their way to school could be heard. It was a wonderful way to wake up to the day.
