The home of the Prussian Royal family and an easy day excursion from Berlin
Potsdam is the roccoco capital of Northern Europe. Summer residence to the Hohenzollern Kings of Prussia, the preeminent royals of Germany, it revolves around Frederick the Great's Sans Souci, the crown jewel of Potsdam.
Potsdam is the best thing about Berlin. All the visitors I have had rave about it, how it's cute, accessible, clean and the additional draw of Park Sanssouci helps as well. It's a nice break from the grittiness of Berlin and feels like you're in an entirely different part of Germany (which technically you are).
Sans Souci is very impressive and a great place for photo shoots. The city itself is relatively quiet and slow-paced, which makes it a nice contrast to the nearby metropolis of Berlin.
