There's a Shell petrol station on 18th November Street just a few minutes to the east of the airport. There's another Shell station just Sultan Qaboos Street. Turn right instead of left into the airport to reach it.

Driving around Muscat Airport

The arterial highway, Sultan Qaboos Street, runs past the airport. From here it's only a few minutes drive to the Muscat Expressway (a major motorway). The roads are large and fast, so make sure you're comfortable with your car before leaving the airport parking lot. Traffic in Oman drives on the right side of the road.

Muscat

Oman's capital city is a sprawling port town offering a heady mix of old world charm and modern trappings. The lengthy coastline is lined with modern hotels, while the atmospheric old town oozes Arabic charm.

It takes just over 15 minutes to drive to downtown Muscat from the airport. Although the city is busy, it's far from chaotic. You should have no trouble driving, especially if you choose a car hire package with a sat-nav system. Parking is widely available, both free and paid, throughout the city. If you search early you'll likely find lots of hotels in Muscat with car parking. You can head out and explore during the day secure in the knowledge that your rental car will be safe at night.

This pleasant seaside town is slowly becoming a popular tourist resort. Bull-butting events and historic forts offer a glimpse into Omani culture, while the high end hotels and restaurants offer western style distractions.
