Stornoway Airport (SYY) is the main air-link between the Scottish mainland and the Isle of Lewis, and is the gateway to the Western Isles. The airport might be small, but it offers everything you might need before embarking on your trip. There’s a cafe offering snacks and hot drinks, a shop selling newspapers, and free Wi-Fi so you can upload your holiday snaps.

Getting to your destination

Public transport is quite scarce on the remote islands, so if you’re planning on doing a lot of exploring it’s a good idea to hire a car and using the island ferries. It’s recommended that you book car hire in advance of your arrival at Stornoway Airport. At the moment Carhire Hebrides are the only company offering car rental service from the airport.

Alternatively there’s a public bus (route W5) which runs from Monday to Saturday, taking passengers from the airport into Stornoway. Private hire taxi cabs can also be reserved, either at the airport or before you fly.
