Discover Najaf
The city of Najaf is one of Islam’s holiest cities, and a major pilgrimage site for Shi’a Muslims. It’s the third most popular pilgrimage site after Mecca and Medina, with millions of people flocking to Najaf each year. The city’s main draw is the tomb of Alī ibn Abī Tālib, the son in law of the prophet Muhammad, considered to be the rightful Caliph by followers of the Shiite faith. The city is also home to the Wadi-us-Salaam cemetery, the largest cemetery in the world where many of the faith’s prophets and most righteous holy men are buried.

When to fly to Najaf
Najaf has scorching weather all year round, but during summer the heat can be unbearable. If you’re planning on doing a lot of sightseeing, visit from November to March when the temperature drops to a far more bearable 15-21°C. November is the wettest month, but considering the average annual rainfall sits at around a quarter of an inch, you probably won’t need to pack your wellingtons.
