Vueling baggage allowance guide

Our comprehensive guide to the airline's excess baggage fees and size and weight restrictions

Flying with Vueling soon? Unsure about what baggage you can bring? Don't worry, we've got it figured out.

What is Vueling's hand baggage allowance?

When it comes to hand baggage, Vueling has a pretty similar policy to other budget European airlines. Their size and weight restrictions are almost identical to RyanAir and Jet2 (bar a few centimetres) and they all allow a personal item bought on board as standard.

However, should you wish to bring a cabin bag on your next Vueling flight, that's where things change. Here are four ways you can do it:

  • Book a Fly or Fly Grande ticket (instead of the cheapest option, Fly Light)

  • Pay for a Space, Space Plus or Space One seat (seat selection bundles which all include a cabin bag)

  • Become a Vueling Premium member (requires 40 flights a year or 20 return flight bookings)

  • Pay an extra fee to bring the bag with you (cost depends on flight route and how you book)

Make sure you do the maths when booking your flight to see what the cheapest way of getting a cabin bag on board is. For example, buying Vueling's cheapest ticket option - Fly Light - then paying to select a seat will give you cabin bag as part of the deal. This will save you money compared to purchasing a ticket with hand luggage included.

Work out what your travel priorities are (do you really need priority boarding if you have reserved overhead locker space?) and see what makes the most sense financially.

What's Vueling's checked baggage allowance?

Vueling allows one piece of 25kg checked luggage per person in Fly and Fly Grande bookings (Fly Light does not include a checked bag).

You can bring extra bags (in 15kg, 20kg, 25kg and 30kg dominations) by buying them online ahead of your flight or adding them at the airport, just be aware that at the airport you'll be charged for 25kgs-worth, even if your bag is lighter.

If you know you'll be bringing a lot of baggage, it's sensible to book your additional bags ahead of airport arrival, as it's 50% cheaper to pay online.

Vueling's hold baggage fees vary by route, but you can see an overview of estimated charges below.

The only real exception is if you're flying to or from certain African countries and the Middle East (Algeria, Cape Verde, Egypt, Gambia, Ghana, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia), in which case the number of checked bags and their cost (between £87.17 (€100) and £139.50 (€160) per item) may vary.

Top tip

Do the maths before booking. Paying for extra bags when selecting your flight may be cheaper than buying a ticket which includes luggage.

What are Vueling's excess baggage fees?

It happens to the best of us: we think our bags are within the weight limit, then we get to the airport and they're a little overweight (take a look at our tips for avoiding last minute baggage fees).

Whether it's 1kg or 10kg over your allowance, you'll have to pay for it.

With Vueling, any bag weighing more than 25kg will be charged a fee per kilo up to a maximum of 32kg (if your bag is heavier than that, it can't be taken on the plane). Expect to pay £10.46 (€12) per kilo at the check-in desk or anywhere between £17.44 (€20) and £122.05 (€140) at the boarding gate.

What's considered 'special luggage' with Vueling?

Generally, special luggage is anything which exceeds Vueling's 158cm total dimension limit. This can be anything from skis and golf clubs to bicycles, snowboards and musical instruments. These bags are not included in any ticket type and need to be paid for in addition to your ticket.

Your unique kit can have a maximum length of 2.7 metres and should not be heavier than 32kg. If your item is bigger or heavier, you won't be able to bring it with you on a Vueling flight and should look into cargo options. If you want to bring a musical instrument in the cabin, you're able to book a seat next to yours so you can keep an eye on it.

Prices depend on your route, though here's an estimate of what it could cost to take your fun bits with you:

At airport

£39.20-£56.70 (€45-€65) per passenger per flight

£39.20-£56.70 (€45-€65) per passenger per flight

£47.95-£65.40 (€55-€75) per passenger per flight

Vueling's baggage FAQs

Yes, if your pet fits in a carrier which can be slotted under the seat in front of you. Dogs, cats and birds (excluding birds of prey) are welcome, provided they remain in the carrier. Your pet must meet certain standards i.e. have a microchip or tapeworm vaccination, depending on where you're flying to. Fees range from £43.60 (€50) to £61 (€70) per flight.

No. Infants (0-2 years old) do not receive a baggage allocation with Vueling, though parents are able to check-in a stroller or pushchair for free.

For hand baggage, the most restrictive policy of the airlines you're flying with is the one you'll have to abide by. Checked and special luggage depends on the fare you're booked, so check with the airline.
