Rabat is town next to Mdina with more options for restaurants and souvenir shops. A lot of the churches there have catacombs underground which makes it a big attraction for tourists.

The suburb of the old capital Mdina, Rabat also previously formed part of the old Roman city of Melita. Lots of history as Rabat is home to the famous Catacombs of St. Paul and St. Agatha. The catacombs were used in Roman times to bury the dead as, according to Roman culture, it was unhygienic to bury the dead in the city Mdina. Worth a visit.

Walk to St. Paul's church, St. Paul's Grotto, St. Paul's catacombs, St. Agata's Catacombs.... stop at the local baker just by the church and buy a loaf of Maltese Bread, also from the Square go to Tom' deli and buy local cheese and Bigilla dip, and Maltese Wine, head to the local confectioneries and buy some traditional Maltese biscuits, head home and enjoy the roof terrace!
