Hotels in Larnaca

Palm lined beaches, atmospheric streets, and oodles of Cypriot sunshine: welcome to Larnaca.

Larnaca may be the oldest city in Cyprus, but that doesn’t mean it’s stuck in the past. Sure, there’s an abundance of ancient shrines, antique stores, and traditional tavernas, but there’s also a modern high street and plenty of contemporary clubs for those who like to dance the night away. The old and new don’t so much combine as fit gracefully around each other, giving this small city plenty of character.

It’s an easy city to explore on foot, so remember to pack a pair of trainers. You don’t want sore feet to mar your experience of the winding alleys of the old town, the craft shops of the old market, or the ancient ruins of the city of Kition.

Most of the hotels in Larnaca can be found clustered around the waterfront, particularly around the two main beaches.

Phinikoudes beach

Great tourist infrastructure, Blue Flag status, and a fab location have made Phinikoudes beach one of the most famous beaches in Cyprus. This is the city’s main beach, and has all of the usual trappings: water sports, sunbeds, and arcade games. It backs onto downtown Larnaca, so after a morning on the beach you can easily head into town for a bit of shopping and sightseeing. There’s a good selection of hotels in the area, from fancy beach resorts to basic seaside accommodation. If you like to be in the heart of the action during your holiday, this is where to stay.

Mackenzie beach

Popular with the locals, and only 5.5km away from Larnaca International Airport, Mackenzie Beach is a great place to spend a family holiday. It’s named after a Scotsman, who settled on Cyprus after WWII and set up a restaurant by the sea. The beach benefits from clean sand and calm waters, thanks to its sheltered position, and is a favourite destination for divers thanks to the nearby Zenobia shipwreck. It’s an hour’s walk from the city centre, but thankfully there are plenty of restaurants, bars, and hotels in the area.
