Discover Tashkent

The capital of Uzbekistan, and once a major trading post on the old Silk Road, Tashkent is one of Central Asia’s most vibrant cities. It’s the main travel hub in the region, and if you’re planning a trip around the ‘stans it’s likely you’ll be spending some time here.

At first glance Tashkent feels a bit soulless, but you only have to scratch the surface to discover plenty of hidden treasure. Grand Soviet architecture stands side by side with humble adobe houses, while crowds jostle in the bazaars and relax in the leafy squares.  There are plenty of great museums, covering everything from local history and culture to art and literature, as well as a buzzing nightlife with plenty of bars, restaurants, and theatres.

 

Airports in Tashkent

Tashkent International Airport (TAS) is Uzbekistan’s main air hub, and the busiest airport in Central Asia. The airport has two terminals; one serving international flights and another for domestic travellers. It has all the facilities you would expect from a large airport, with VIP lounges and duty-free shops as well as restaurants, bars, and a 24 hour pharmacy.

When to fly to Tashkent

Tashkent has scorching summers and bitter winters. If you’re planning on doing a lot of sightseeing in the city or hiking in the surrounding countryside the best time to go is during spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) when temperatures are a pleasant 20-30°C. The end of March is the perfect time to visit, as a huge New Year party takes place on the 21st of the month.
