Airports in Gold Coast

Gold Coast Airport (OOL), previously known as Coolangatta Airport, serves the city. It straddles the states of New South Wales and Queensland, and is the only Australian airport located in two different states. The airport was originally built to provide an emergency landing area for flights between Brisbane and Sydney. Regular flights began from the airport after WWII, and the first international flight arrived in 1990 from New Zealand. 

Airlines that fly to Gold Coast

There are no direct flights from the UK to Gold Coast. You can reach Gold Coast from a range of Australian, Asian, and New Zealand cities using the following airlines: AirAsia X, Air New Zealand, Airnorth, Jetstar Airways, Qantas, Scoot, Tigerair Australia and Virgin Australia. 

Getting into Gold Coast

Bus 777 leaves the airport every 15 minutes from 7am until 7pm, and offers a limited stop service to Broadbeach.  From Broadbeach you can take further transport on to Gold Coast. Bus fares are determined by zone. This journey would cost $8.60 (about £4.35)*. The bus to Miami costs around $6.70 (about £3.40)*, and a bus to Palm Beach would cost $5.60 (about £2.80).*

Taxis are also available at the airport. Expect to pay $54 (about £27.20)* for a taxi to Surfer’s Paradise, $37 (around £18.65*) to Miami, and $23 (roughly £11.60)* to Palm Beach. 

Car hire is also available at the airport from Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Budget, Thrifty and Red Spot.

When to fly to Gold Coast

Summers run from November to March in Gold Coast, and can be extremely hot and humid. Although the city benefits from 300 days of sunshine each year, the summer is when it’s most likely to rain. Visit in September, October, April, or May for the most pleasant weather. During the spring and autumn temperatures tend to hover around 25°C. Perfect for learning to surf, lounging on the beach, or hitting the theme parks.
