With its Portuguese colonial buildings, beautiful beaches, and buzzing nightlife, the capital of Mozambique is an absolute gem of a city.

Airports in Maputo
Maputo International Airport (MPM) also goes by the names Lourenço Marques Airport and Mavalane International Airport. It’s the largest airport in Mozambique, and is just under two miles away from the city. A new, modern, terminal was opened in 2010.
Airlines that fly to Maputo
There are no direct flights from the UK to Maputo. Most of the flights to the airport are from other African countries. From Europe you can fly via Lisbon with TAP Portugal. There are also international flights from Doha with Qatar Airways. Other airlines that fly to Maputo include Airlink, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, LAM Mozambique Airlines, Malawi Airlines, Mocambique Express, and South African Airways.
Getting into Maputo
You can take a taxi into town for around MZN 350-500* (about £7-£10)*. There are hourly buses between the airport and the city. Buses 18, 24 and 25 serve the route between 4:30am and 10pm. You can rent a car at the airport from Avis or Hertz.

When to visit Maputo
Winter (April to September) is the best time to visit Maputo. The weather is warm but less humid, with temperatures ranging from 10-21°C. The days are warm enough to head to the beach, but cool enough to enjoy sightseeing. From December to March temperatures can soar to 41°C and it can also be very wet. If you don’t mind hot and humid, there are some great holiday bargains to be found at this time of year.
