Airports in Chengdu

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) is the busiest airport in western China, and is an important gateway into the region. There’s a VIP Lounge and a First Class Lounge for travellers who enjoy a bit of luxury before they fly, and there are a few good quality hotels on the airport grounds which are convenient for red eye travellers.

Airlines that fly to Chengdu

British Airways fly direct to Chengdu. Other airlines flying direct from Europe include KLM from Amsterdam and Air China from Frankfurt.

Getting into Chengdu

There are lots of public transport options between the airport and Chengdu. There are four airport busses: Bus No. 1 goes to the City Centre and tickets cost ¥10 (about £1.05)*, No. 2 goes to North Railway Station and tickets cost anything up to ¥10 (about £1.05)*, No. 3 goes to the East Railway Station and tickets cost ¥12 (about £1.25)*, and No. 4 goes to the Chengdu International Exhibition Centre and tickets cost ¥10 (about £1.05).*

There’s a high speed train from the airport to Chengdu South Railway Station and Chengdu East Railway Station. Tickets on both routes cost ¥8 (about 85p).*

Taxis are available outside the airport building, and the trip to central Chengdu should cost around ¥60 (about £6.35).* It’s always wise to get an estimate from the taxi driver before beginning your journey.
