Packed with history, culture, and nightlife, the capital of Tasmania is fast becoming one of Australia’s top tourist destinations. Hobart it the southernmost capital in Australia, and is also one of its chilliest cities. Airports in Hobart
Hobart International Airport (HBA) is the largest passenger airport in Tasmania, and is just 11 miles outside of Hobart itself. The airport has international status, although it hasn’t received any international flights since 1998 when flights to Christchurch ended. However the airport is sometimes used by Skytraders for flights to Antarctica.
Airlines that fly to Hobart
No airlines currently offer direct flights from the UK to Hobart. At the moment it’s only possible to fly in on domestic routes with Jetstar Airways, QantasLink (Cobham Aviation Services Australia), Tigerair Australia, and Virgin Australia.
Getting into Hobart
The Redline Airporter shuttle bus meets all flights. You can book return transportation too, provided you contact the company two hours before you require it. One way tickets are $18* (about £9.50)*, and return tickets are $32* (roughly £16.50)*.
There’s also a taxi rank outside the terminal building. You can expect to pay $31-37* (about £16-£20)* for the trip into the city centre. Bear in mind taxi prices can fluctuate depending on time of day, cab company, and distance travelled. It’s always wise to ask the driver for an estimate before setting off.

When to visit Hobart
During the summer holidays (December to January) Hobart offers plenty of exciting events and benefits from beautiful weather. Temperatures usually sit at 11-21°C, and attractions like the Taste Festival, New Year’s fireworks, and Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race all take place around this time of year.
