The racing capital of the world, Indianapolis is the perfect base for those who want to see the Indy 500 and Allstate 400 in action. When you’re not watching the races, you’ll realise that there’s more to Indianapolis than cars. The sprawling city is also home to the world’s biggest Scottish Rite cathedral, and the famous Soldiers & Sailors monument which is only 15 feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty. Indianapolis International Airport (IND) serves Indianapolis, and is the largest airport in Indiana. The airport was once named for Colonel Harvey Weir-Cook, an Indiana native who made a name for himself as a flying ace during WWI. Although the airport dropped his name in 1976, the new terminal and airport approach road are named for Weir-Cook in tribute.

Getting into Indianapolis

There are two public buses available from the airport to downtown. The first option is IndyGo’s Route 8 bus, which costs $1.75* (about £1.10) for a single ticket. The second option is the Express bus, which costs $5* (roughly £3.10) each way.
