Playa Viva
A regenerative eco-tourism resort in Mexico
Playa Viva is a regenerative eco‑luxury resort on Mexico’s Pacific coast that blends tourism with environmental restoration and community development. Playa Viva operates with a deep respect for the surrounding ecosystem, from protecting sea turtle nesting grounds to supporting local education and reforestation projects. Our investment was used to upgrade Playa Viva’s battery storage for their on‑site solar power system. This upgrade significantly improves their ability to store renewable energy, allowing them to remain 100% off-grid.
Purple Elephant Ventures
Africa's hub for regenerative tourism innovation
Purple Elephant Ventures (PEV) is a venture studio based in Nairobi, Kenya, dedicated to transforming Africa's tourism industry through sustainable and innovative tech-based solutions. Founded in 2020, PEV focuses on designing, building, and scaling climate-smart travel technology start-ups that promote regenerative tourism across the continent. By bringing together world-class ideas, innovators, founders, and capital, PEV aims to protect Africa's natural capital and foster economic growth.
Kara Tunga
Culture, Conservation and Community in Uganda
Kara-Tunga is a social enterprise reimagining tourism in Uganda’s Karamoja region through community-led cultural and adventure experiences. By connecting travellers with local heritage, landscapes and biodiversity, Kara-Tunga helps shift perceptions of the region while creating sustainable livelihoods. Alongside its tours, the Kara-Tunga Foundation supports community empowerment through conservation, cultural preservation and skills training. With support from the Reset Tourism Fund, Kara-Tunga is expanding its network of eco-lodges across Uganda’s Karamoja region. Each new lodge is designed to encourage longer stays, create local jobs and ensure tourism revenue flows directly into surrounding communities. The Namoni Lodge, located on the edge of Kidepo Valley National Park, will support conservation efforts while celebrating the culture, resilience and sense of place that make Karamoja one of East Africa’s most distinctive destinations.
