Vagator beach is quite up north in Goa and far away from Panaji. It is closer to the hippie beach of Anjuna though you can take your family here. It is famous for younger travelers who mostly visit during the Sunburn Music Festival held at Anjuna. You can

Crazy raves on the beach, and definitely check out the stone carvings at the southern end of Little Vagator beach. Trippy little spot.

Once the home of Goa's rave scene, Vagator has calmed down somewhat in the past few years. Still, for outdoor open-air dancing, Nine Bar is hard to beat, and though it closes at just nine o'clock (really?), there are always parties to be had by following the crowd afterwards. The sheltered, warm, shallow beaches here are great for swimming, especially for families with children.

Vagator Beach is Anjuna Beach's laid back neighbor. Split into two beaches - Big and Little Vagator - the red cliff headlands make it a popular spot for getting a panoramic of the backpackers lounging about in scantily clad beach attire. Palm trees, golden sand and the warm waters of the Arabian Sea, not to mention the odd bovine soaking in the scene, make Vagator just what you've been looking for (if that's what you're into;-)
