Excellent, would stay again

Stayed in private double room with ensuite. Very good value for money. Place was a little dusty but had everything we needed and bathroom clean. Manager was friendly and helpful. Good location, next to Zaraffas and walked to CBD across the bridge in 20 minutes.

Bad vibes all round. Don’t support this one—go somewhere that is hospitable and safe instead.

Pretty gross and tacky to be honest.
Staff very unkind. Not a hospitable choice for last minute bookings, unfortunately.
Also the property was very run down.
Major drug den vibes. Nothing like the YHA in Cairns or just any, really.. The reception desk looked indistinguishable-to the point where upon arrival I thought I had been directed to an unsafe and dangerous premise-not a YHA.
Safety: The hostel's situated in a fairly isolated alleyway in the derelict area of Rocky. Probably not suitable if your a solo female backpacker/holliday maker.
Noteworthy details: The receptionist is quite judgmental and will refuse to accept last minute bookings.

Pleasant stay

Overall a pleasant experience. We couldn't get another hotel room in Rockhampoon as the Beef Convention was on and everything was booked out. The cabins (demountables from the year 2000 olympics) were worn, but clean and everything worked. The price was less than we expected to pay for a hotel room, but this was about a 2 star. However, it was quiet, close to restaurants and amenities and in a garden setting. So we liked it!

Uncomfortable stay

We were meant to stay here for a night but ended up leaving after a few hours because we felt quite uncomfortable. Quite a weird vibe to the place and poor security meant some random men came into our room in the middle of the night and were poking through our stuff while they thought we were asleep. They didn’t have any luggage and seemed as though one had paid for a room and the rest had all come in as well. Location is not very good and the shuttle which is advertised from the greyhound stop no longer exists, meaning you have to pay 20$ for a cab (if you can get one). Lots of long term workers and not many backpackers which was a bit uncomfortable.

get what you pay for

it is what it is! budget friendly accomodation for a quick stop over. the rooms were fine, bedding could probably do with a refresher as one of our pillows was pretty gross. the doggies at the YHA were the best part :)
