Budget
Restaurant deals, open green spaces and free attractions all add up to a very affordable city break in Bucharest. Expect to pay around 58 Romanian lei for a meal at an inexpensive restaurant. A domestic beer or coffee will cost you as little as 15 lei. Short taxi rides around the city run at about the same.
Getting around Bucharest
Bucharest has four Metro lines, and a rechargeable Activ card – available from any RATB kiosk – covers the city's buses, trolleys and trams. Driving can be stressful, so getting around on foot or by public transport is generally recommended. Rideshare apps including Uber are also available.
Day trips from Bucharest
About two hours north by train, the majestic Peles Castle served as the summer residence of the Romanian royal family. Closer to the city, Mogosoaia Palace is a beautiful example of Brâncovenesc architecture. For mountain adventures, the Transfagarasan region is over three hours away – but the drive alone is breathtaking.
