The old capital of Northern Rhodesia, Livingstone is a grand old city full of colonial buildings and surrounded by astounding natural beauty. The city is Zambia’s main tourist hub, with plenty of sightseeing and adventure activities on its door step. One of the must-see sights near Livingstone is Victoria Falls, which are on the border with Zimbabwe. The city is named after Scottish explorer David Livingstone, the first European to set eyes on the famous falls.

Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) was previously known as Livingstone Airport, and is the nearest airport to Victoria Falls. The airport is named for a leader of the National Congress of Africa in Zambia, who played a key role in the country’s independence movement.

Getting into Livingstone

When to visit Livingstone
If you want to see Victoria Falls in all their glory, it’s best to visit Livingstone from February to May. This is when the summer rainy season has ended, and the falls are in full flood. The water levels are at their lowest in October and November, and the Zambian side of the falls is often dry.
Aside from visiting the falls, the peak time to visit Livingstone is from June to August. This season is cool and dry, perfect for sightseeing or just enjoying your time in the city.
