Discover Abidjan
The Paris of West Africa, Abidjan is the largest city in Cote d’Ivoire and the country’s former capital. The 2011 Ivoran crisis may have taken its toll on the city, but Abidjan is recovering fast. As well as being a cultural hub in the region, with plenty of annual festivals to sink your teeth into, Abidjan also has a reputation for its excellent nightlife. Trendy bars, fantastic restaurants, and swanky hotels can be found throughout the city, with new hotspots opening their doors on a near weekly basis.
Airports in Abidjan
Port Bouet Airport (ABJ), or to give it its proper name, Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport, is just ten miles south of Abidjan and is the largest and busiest airport in Cote d’Ivoire. It’s the country’s only international airport. It’s considered to be one of the most modern airports in West Africa, and is a major hub for the region. It has good connections with Europe through Air France and Brussels Airlines.
Airlines that fly to Abidjan
There are no direct flights from the UK to Abidjan. You can fly indirect with Air France, Brussels Airlines, Corsair International, and Turkish Airlines, all of which offer regular flights.
Getting into Abidjan
Taxis are available outside the airport 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The orange ones offer metered fares and are usually most reliable. Shuttle buses are also available if you pre-book them. When to fly to Abidjan
Abidjan’s temperature is a pleasant 20°C to 30°C all year round. The monsoon season lasts from May to July, and January to June can be particularly humid months. The best time of year to visit is from November until January, when the weather is cooler and there’s less chance of rain.
One of the liveliest times to visit Abidjan is during the first week of August. This is when the Concerto Festival takes place. This huge event celebrates Cote d’Ivoire’s Independence Day. The free festival involves music, dance, comedy, fireworks, and kicks off on August 6th each year.
