Discover Timisoara

The birthplace of the 1989 revolution, and Romania’s most cosmopolitan city, Timisoara is the perfect destination for a city break. Timisoara Traian Vuia International (TSR) serves Romania’s historical Banat region, and is the third largest airport in the country in terms of air traffic. 

Airlines that fly to Timisoara

Wizz Air fly direct to Timisoara from the UK, as well as a wide range of other European cities. Other year-round routes include Lufthansa CityLine from Munich and TAROM from Bucharest. The rest of the airlines flying into Timisoara do so on a seasonal charter basis, usually from Greek island destinations. 

Getting into Timisoara

Express bus E4 connects the airport with the city centre, while E4b connects with Timisoara’s main railway station. One way tickets on each bus cost 2.5 RON* (about 40p). You can buy your tickets at the parking desk inside the terminal building.

Taxis are also available at the airport, and ranks can be found outside both terminal buildings. If you prefer to make your own way around Banat and into Timisoara, you can rent a car at the airport. There’s a great variety of car hire companies with Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, Enterprise and Thrifty, as well as smaller brands like Autonom, Api Rent a Car, City Car, and Bavari. Their opening times are based on flight schedules.

During April the week-long CafeKultour event combines culture and coffee, as cafes play host to plays, book readings, film projections, and concerts. August’s Opera and Operetta Festival offers a cultural backdrop to relaxing evenings spent in Roses Park, while December’s Christmas Market offers the opportunity to pick up some interesting Christmas presents.
