Airports in Canberra
Canberra Airport (CBR) serves the city of Canberra as well as Queanbeyan in New South Wales. Despite the airport’s international status, at the moment it only serves domestic routes. There are plans in place to start offering more international routes through low-cost carriers in the next few years, however.
Airlines that fly to Canberra
There are no direct flights from the UK to Canberra at the moment. If you’re planning a trip to Canberra you will need to connect in another Australian city. Qantas, Cobham, Eastern Australian Airlines, Sunstate Airlines, Virgin Australia, and Virgin Australia Regional Airlines all connect Canberra with Australia’s major cities. Most of the flights to Canberra start in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, with a few flights from Perth and Gold Coast too.
Getting into Canberra
The Airport Express bus runs between the airport and the city centre. Tickets cost $12 (about £6.40)* for a single, or $20 for a return (about £10.65).* On weekdays the last bus is at 6:50pm, and on weekends the service ends at 6:12pm.
There’s a taxi rank outside the terminal building. The journey into the city centre should cost $48 (£25.50)* between 6am and 9pm on weekdays, and $54 (about £28.70 during the night, at weekends, and on public holidays. These are estimates. Prices should be discussed with your driver before getting in the cab.
Car hire is available at Canberra Airport from Avis, Budget, East Coast Car Rentals, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot Sixt and Thrifty.
