Airports in Sochi

Sochi International Airport (AER) is one of Russia’s top ten busiest airports, and was the main point of arrival for the majority of athletes and spectators arriving for the 22nd Olympic Winter Games. In 2010 the airport featured on New Zealand coins, as part of a collection celebrating the world’s Olympic capitals. The airport itself is very shiny and new, as it was reconstructed in 2010 in preparation for the Olympic games.

Airlines that fly to Sochi

At the moment there are no airlines flying direct from the UK to Sochi. It’s possible to fly indirect with British Airways, Transaero Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, S7 Airlines, KLM, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines, AtlasJet, UTAir, and Flybe.

Getting into Sochi

Buses 105 and 124 take passengers from the airport to Sochi’s central railway station. If you’re staying in the Adler district you can catch bus 51 from the airport to the central market. Bus 135 goes from the airport to Krasnaya Polyana, a popular ski resort on the outskirts on the city. There’s also an Aeroexpress train from the airport to downtown Adler and Sochi.

Taxis are available outside the airport terminal, although it’s a good idea to book your transfer in advance. Fares depend on which part of the city you’re travelling to, but a ride into Central Sochi should set you back around RUB 800-1000* (about £10.85-£13.55).
