Trondheim might be the oldest city in Norway, but thanks to its huge student population it has a young and lively atmosphere. As well as historic churches and excellent museums you’ll find plenty going on with great music and art scenes, as well as a cafe culture that could easily put Paris to shame.

 

Airports in Trondheim

 

Trondheim Airport, Værnes (TRD) serves the Trøndelag region and is 12 miles east of Trondheim city itself. The airport is modern with lots of shops and facilities, and passengers can enjoy up to two hours of free Wi-Fi in the terminal.

 

Airlines that fly to Trondheim

 

Norwegian Air Shuttle is currently the only airline offering direct flights to Trondheim from the UK. It’s also possible to take indirect flights with Wideroe, SAS, KLM, Eastern Airways, Aer Lingus, Flybe and Air Berlin.

 

Getting into Trondheim

 

There’s an airport shuttle, Flybussen, which travels between the airport and the city centre. Single tickets cost 130 NOK* (about £11.90) and round trip tickets cost 220 NOK* (about £20.10). There are discounts available for the elderly, children, students, members of the military, and families. You can also take the Værnes-Ekspressen bus, which is less frequent. Fares are the same as Flybussen.

 

Trains are also available, and take around 35-40 minutes to reach Trondheim Central Station. Tickets are 71 NOK* (about £6.50) if you buy them from the machine in the concourse. There’s a 40 NOK* (£3.65) surcharge if you choose to buy your ticket on board.

 

Alternatively you can take a taxi from the stand outside the arrivals hall.
