At first glance Tashkent feels a bit soulless, but you only have to scratch the surface to discover plenty of hidden treasure. Grand Soviet architecture stands side by side with humble adobe houses, while crowds jostle in the bazaars and relax in the leafy squares. There are plenty of great museums, covering everything from local history and culture to art and literature, as well as a buzzing nightlife with plenty of bars, restaurants, and theatres.
