When to visit St Kitts

St Kitts is near the equator and temperatures are a standard 26°C all year. The peak season is from December to April, and the island is at its busiest from December to January when Carnival is in full-swing. If you're planning to visit at this time of year you will need to book your hotel well in advance (at least six months) as places do book up and rates rise dramatically. If you want to avoid the crowds, aim to visit in May or June. The wet season lasts from July to November, and many businesses close for the season. Those that are open do lower their rates, however, so it's a good time to nab a bargain.

What to see and do

Beaches: If you do love to be beside the seaside, you'll have a great time in St Kitts. The most peaceful beaches are on the south-east side of the peninsula. Think white sands, clear water, and no crowds. If you enjoy a dip head to the western coast of the island, where the Caribbean Sea laps gently against the sand. If you're looking for a bit of surf, head east where the Atlantic bashes the coast.

History: Clay Villa Plantation House, Romney Manor and Brimstone Hill Fortress are just a few of the island's colonial attractions.

Sports: Enjoy sailing around the island, discover the wonders of the sea on a diving trip, or let the adrenaline flow with a bit of kite-boarding.
