Airports in Lugano

Lugano Airport (LUG) is a small airport, just 2.5 miles west of the city. There’s one bar and one restaurant, and free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal. 

Airlines that fly to Lugano

There are no direct flights from the UK to Lugano.  You can fly indirectly, with one or more stops, using Swiss International Airline. Other airlines that fly to Lugano are Darwin Airline, Silver Air, and Tyrolean Airways from a range of European destinations. 

Getting into Lugano

Taxis are available outside the terminal building from 7:30am to 9:30pm. It should cost CHF 35 (about £27)* to get to the centre of Lugano, and CHF 30 (about £23)* to reach Lugano train station.

Agno train station is a ten minute walk from the airport terminal, and from there you can catch frequent trains into Lugano. These come every 15 minutes during the week, and every half hour at weekends. 

There’s also a shuttle bus, which meets all scheduled flights and offers transport from the airport to the city. You have to reserve a spot on the shuttle for the return journey, but it’s a hop on-hop off service for arrivals. Group discounts apply, but a solo traveller should expect to pay CHF 10 (about £7.70)* for a single ticket and CHF 18 (about £13.85)* for a return.

Car hire is also available at Lugano Airport through Sixt, Avis, Budget, Europcar, and Hertz.
