Armenia’s capital city is a heaven for culture vultures. It might be a small city, but it definitely punches above its weight in terms of art galleries, museums, theatres, and marvellous examples of early Soviet architecture. With a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of café culture, it’s definitely a destination worth adding to your travel wish list.

Airports in Yerevan

Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) is 7.5 miles to the west of Yerevan, and is Armenia’s busiest airport. There’s a good range of shops and eateries to choose from, with a restaurant serving Armenian, Italian and Chinese food. For those who like to wait for their flight in luxury, there is a business lounge and a VIP lounge.

Airlines that fly to Yerevan

There are no direct flights from the UK to Yerevan. If you’re prepared to make a few stops, you can fly with Air France, Austrian Airlines, Ukraine International, Virgin Atlantic, Transaero Airlines, LOT, Aeroflot, Alitalia, British Airways, KLM, Belavia, UTair, germanwings, EL AL Israel Airlines, and Arkia from a range of British airports.

You might have to catch a connecting flight with a different airline, so leave plenty of time while planning your itinerary.

Getting into Yerevan

Buses 201 and 108 connect the airport with the city centre, with single journeys costing about 335 AMD (about 45p)*. There are plans to extend the metro to the airport, but at the moment the bus is the only form of public transport available.

Taxis are also available outside the airport, with a journey into the city costing around 4,200 AMD (about £5.80)* but it’s always worth confirming this with the driver before getting into the cab. The airport’s official taxi company, AeroTaxi, have free Wi-Fi. You can book your taxi online, or at the desk inside the terminal building.

Car hire is also available via Sixt. It’s always wise to book your hire car in advance to avoid disappointment upon arrival.
