Our partnership
with SkyNRG
Supporting the production and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel.

Developing demand for SAF
We’re working with SkyNRG to support the demand for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SkyNRG’s mission is to develop dedicated SAF production and spread knowledge
of its importance.
As part of SkyNRG’s Board Now programme, Skyscanner purchases SAF so we can reduce the impact of our own corporate travel, as well as help drive supply of SAF for
the future.
SkyNRG is a global leader in SAF. Since 2010, it’s been scaling up SAF demand and production capacity so the industry can meet its IATA and other 2050 net zero commitments.

SkyNRG:
The pioneers of SAF
SkyNRG was the first in the world to supply SAF on a commercial flight, flown by co-founder and shareholder
KLM in 2011.
To date, SkyNRG has supplied SAF to over 40 airlines across the world and is now developing production facilities to support the shift from fossil jet fuel to SAF.
As a certified B Corp™, SkyNRG prioritises producing the most responsible, sustainable SAF worldwide. Recognised as a sustainability leader, it maintains an independent Sustainability Board to advise the company on feedstocks and provides strategic guidance on sustainability issues. SkyNRG’s operations are certified by RSB and CORSIA.

How SkyNRG ensures
its SAF is sustainable
SkyNRG follows multiple frameworks to ensure it adheres to strict sustainability standards, such as RSB, B-Corp and CORSIA.
The Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) certification system is based on sustainability standards encompassing environmental, social and economic principles and criteria. RSB is a worldwide initiative that brings together farmers, corporations, NGOs, experts, governments and inter-governmental agencies concerned with ensuring the sustainability of biomass production.
In 2019, RSB received recognition as the best standard for SAF by the International Coalition on Sustainable Aviation – the only environmental NGO group accredited by the UN’s aviation institute ICAO.
In addition, SkyNRG is also guided by an independent Sustainability Board on all aspects related to social and environmental sustainability – including the types of feedstocks used, R&D projects, policy developments and growth strategies. The Board includes representatives from WWF International, the European Climate Foundation and the University of Groningen.
In addition to the Sustainability Board, SkyNRG established a knowledgeable global NGO network that supports mapping out the challenges and opportunities of work in the SAF industry.
