Huiselijke Hostel met goede accommodatie

We had a wonderful three days in the area around Hostel Gimli in Dalvik and enjoyed the warm welcome and homely atmosphere. The fish soup is truly legendary, and it's served in a lovely tavern, well worth a visit. The hostel owner, Mr. Gunnarsson, is very helpful and quickly came to our aid when we locked ourselves out or forgot our backpacks. Thanks so much for that, and also for all the tips. See you next time!

Very cosy and clean, great hosts :)

We booked a family room which was really spacious and clean and the beds were super comfy. Gimli is right in the centre of town and the owners are wonderful; they also run Bakkabar, a bar/cafe around the corner that is so cosy and quirky and atmospheric that it cant be missed.

Amazing

Wonderful place. Host fantastic waited for us the check in when we ran later at the airport. Room great fit for 5 with an amazing view of the harbor. Beds super comfortable and room clean. Great place to stay!!!!!

Deserves all the praise

The Gimli guesthouse/hostel in Dalvik has been called "the best hostel in Europe" and was a top pick in my guidebook. I cannot claim to have stayed in all the other hostels in Europe, but Gimli is indeed wonderful. Convenient, very attractively decorated and furnished, with nice spacious showers and an upstairs kitchen/sitting room that is so inviting you could hang out there for hours. The host, Bjarni, is not only friendly but very helpful and accommodating. We spent two nights and had a great time. The only negative thing was some noise from a bar across the road (we had a front room, and it was a holiday weekend), but that did not diminish our opinion of the Gimli.

Incredible

A grand place to stay in Dalvik.. Gimli hostel is across the street from the best whale watching in Iceland. Beautifuuly decorated, great group kitchen with everything one needs. Beautiful lounge with hand knitted pillow covers. Our host was so friendly and knowledgeable . The swimming pool is also the best in Iceland so far that we have swam in. Delightfull all the way around.
