Discover Bonaire
Bonaire puts the ‘B’ in the ABC islands, the Caribbean chain which also includes Aruba and Curacao. The most popular thing to do on Bonaire is go diving, as the island has plenty of gorgeous reefs just off the coast. The beaches are fantastic, and nature lovers will enjoy spotting flamingos and wandering around the Washington-Slagbaai National Park. Rock art and disused slave shelters hint at the island’s past, while a huge variety of water-sports ensure that you never need to sit still for too long.
Airports in Bonaire
Flamingo International Airport (BON), also known as Bonaire International Airport, serves the island. KLM often use the airport as a connecting point on their routes to South America, as well as for Dutch Antilles Express and Insel Air flights to Miami.
Airlines that fly to Bonaire
There are no direct flights from the UK to Bonaire. You can fly from Europe with Arkefly and KLM, both from Amsterdam. Divi Divi Air, EZAir, and Insel Air all offer flights from neighbouring Curacao with Insel Air also offering flights to and from Aruba. Delta Airlines and United Airlines both offer flights to Bonaire from the United States.
Getting to your destination
There is no public transport to and from the airport. Some hotels in Bonaire offer shuttle services for their guests. It’s worth checking with your accommodation to find out if they offer this service. There’s a taxi rank at the airport, where you can take a cab to your hotel. It’s always a good idea to get a rough price estimate from the driver before you set off. Car hire is available at the airport, and is a great option if you want to spend some time exploring the island as public transport is quite scarce.

When to fly to Bonaire
There’s never really a bad time to visit Bonaire. Temperatures are fairly constant throughout the year, rarely dropping below 24°C, while the island’s unique position outside the hurricane belt means that tropical storms aren’t a threat. The high season lasts from December until April, when cruise ships descend upon the island, but if you want to pick up a bargain you’ll find that hotel prices are lower in October and November.
