Faro Airport

Faro Airport is the only airport in The Algarve, Portugal. It's the nearest airport to Albufeira, Lagos, Vilamoura and Praia da Rocha. It's about 2.5 miles west of Faro, the region's capital. The airport is a hub for Ryanair, and gets really busy from March to October. It has one terminal. The most popular flight routes to Faro are from London, Manchester, Dublin and Amsterdam.

Parking at Faro Airport

There are two short-stay car parks (P1 by departures and P2 by arrivals) at Faro Airport and one long-stay car park (P3), which is cheaper for stays of a day or longer. It costs €9 per day to leave your car in the short-stay car park, and €5 in long-stay.

Places to eat at Faro Airport include Costa Coffee, Subway, Burger MH, and Air Tasty. There's a Mulligans Irish bar and a Carslberg pub too. There's also a Delta cafe, for that last taste of Portuguese coffee before you board.

Shops at Faro Airport include duty free, fashion and gift stores. There's an Accessorize, Football Gate, Fashion Gate, Sunglass Hut, Relay, Duty Free Store, Cores Doces, Mr Blue and Dreams Gourmet in the departure area.

Faro Airport lounge

Anyone can access the ANA lounge for a flat fee of €25 + VAT. The lounge has free Wi-Fi and lots of charging stations, and plenty of sweet and savoury Portuguese snacks to enjoy. There's also a good selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

 Getting to & from the Airport

Driving hide 

Car hire from Faro Airport is very popular, especially during the summer. The fastest way to get from Faro Airport to Albufeira and other destinations is to hop on the A22 motorway. This is a toll road, and the tolls are electronic so you'll need to hire a toll transponder with your car. If you'd rather avoid this, the airport is just off the toll-free N-125 road. You can take this all the way from Faro Airport to Lagos in the west (as far as Sagres) or east to Tavira and the Spanish border.

Trains hide 

The Portuguese government have announced plans for a rail link at Faro Airport by 2022, but for now the nearest station is in the centre of Faro city. Faro's train station is on the Algarve Rail Line, with trains to destinations such as Albufeira, Lagos, Portimao and Tavira. You can take a bus or a taxi into Faro from the airport.

Buses hide 

The no. 16 bus runs from the airport to Faro city centre, and stops near the main train station. Tickets cost €2.22 and the trip takes about 20 minutes. Once you get into Faro you can take a train or another bus (from the main bus station) to reach your holiday destination.

Taxi hide 

There's a taxi rank outside the airport. Official cabs are black with green roofs. Cabs are metered so your fare will vary depending on where you're going, but as a rough estimate you should expect to pay:

· Taxi from Faro Airport to Albufeira: €47-55

· Taxi from Faro Airport to Vilamoura: €30-36

· Taxi from Faro to Lagos: €87-104,

· Taxi from Faro Airport to Praia da Rocha: €72-86
