Android Accessibility Statement

Introduction

At Skyscanner, we're committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, by following the European Accessibility Standards (EN 301 549). These standards align with our mission of putting travellers first.

It’s important to Skyscanner that we continuously work to improve our website’s usability and remove barriers to access. We do this by running automated and manual audits, testing new product features with people with disabilities and supporting our teams with tooling, training and up-to-date working standards.

Web accessibility is based on four key principles:

  • Perceivable – Information and interface elements must be presented in ways users can perceive

  • Operable – Interactive elements like buttons, forms, and navigation must be usable by all, including keyboard and assistive tech users

  • Understandable – Content and interactions should be clear and predictable

  • Robust – Content must work reliably across browsers, devices, and assistive technologies

This statement applies to the Skyscanner Android app and reflects our ongoing commitment to inclusive digital experiences.

About us and our service

Skyscanner is a global leader in travel, helping travellers plan and book their trip easily and confidently. We connect millions of travellers with over 1,200 trusted travel partners every month so they can find the best flight, hotel or car hire deals. Our users come from 180 countries and speak 37 languages, so inclusivity is at the heart of what we do.

Using the latest technology, Skyscanner simplifies the complexity of travel and provides honest and transparent solutions. We search more than 100 billion prices every day so travellers can be sure they’ve seen the best possible options, all in one place.

How we comply

We’re actively working to make sure that Skyscanner meets established accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and EN 301 549 – the European standard for digital accessibility.

Our approach includes:

  • Publishing and maintaining this accessibility statement, outlining our goals and progress

  • Providing clear ways for users to contact us with feedback or to report accessibility issues

  • Having accessibility compliance requirements in our procurement process

  • Conducting internal evaluations and independent audits to identify accessibility barriers

This work supports our commitment to make Skyscanner a flagship of disability inclusion, our products accessible to all, and travel planning easier for people with disabilities.

Compliance status

Skyscanner partially complies with the accessibility guidelines referred to under WCAG 2.2 AA and EN 301 549 due to the areas of non-compliance listed below.

Non-accessible content

Perceivable

  • Icons or image buttons don’t include a coded contentDescription, leaving screen reader users without context

  • Form fields aren’t grouped semantically. Screen readers can’t identify related elements like radio button groups

  • Text on buttons or in input fields doesn’t meet 4.5:1 contrast requirements

  • Text embedded in promotional images isn’t readable by screen readers or scalable

  • Low-contrast indicators like toggle states or checkbox outlines are hard to notice

Operable

  • Some elements aren't operable by keyboard users

  • Session timeout occurs without warning or an option to extend time

  • Swiping through a screen with TalkBack doesn't always follow the visual order

  • Some elements are missing focus states when using keyboard navigation

  • Some tap targets are smaller than 48x48dp

Understandable

  • Some visible labels and accessibility labels differ

  • Some similar UI elements are inconsistently named

  • Some inputs lack clear instructions, placeholders or field hints

Robust

  • Some custom views like sliders don’t reveal their state or purpose to TalkBack

  • Some important messages (like errors or confirmations) aren't announced to screen readers

Skyscanner is committed to improving the non-accessible content it has identified as part of its audit.
