Airports in Santo Domingo
Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) is one of the largest airports in the Caribbean, and is the second busiest airport in the Dominican Republic. The new northern terminal opened in 2007, giving the airport the capacity to receive more international flights than ever before.
Airlines that fly to Santo Domingo
There are no direct flights from the UK to Santo Domingo. From Europe you can fly from Madrid with Air Europa or Iberia, from Paris with Air France and Air Caraibes, from Frankfurt with Condor, and from Brussels with Jetairfly.
There’s a range of airlines which fly to Santo Domingo from American airports, including US Airways, United Airlines, Spirit Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and Delta Air Lines.
Other airlines operate services between Santo Domingo and South America, as well as betwee other Caribbean islands. These include Aeronaves Dominicanas, Air Antilles Express, Air Century, Air Century, Air Turks and Caicos, Avianca, Copa Airlines, Cubana, Insel Air, LIAT, LASER Airlines, Seaborne Airlines, Venezolana and Winair.
Getting into Santo Domingo
Public buses are available on the second level of Terminal A. The routes can be a little erratic, so check at the information desk inside which bus to get and where. Fares start at 5* pesos (about 7p)* for non-air conditioned buses, and 10* pesos (about 15p)* for air conditioned ones.
There’s a taxi rank outside the airport, however most taxis in San Domingo don’t have meters. It’s best to negotiate a price before setting off: it should cost between 1000* and 1500* pesos (about £15-£22.50)*.
