Discover Orland
The remote, beautiful, Ørland region sits on the south-western tip of the Fosen peninsula, on the mouth of the Trondheimsfjord at the beginning of the Stjørnfjord arm. It’s a great place to visit if you value peace and quiet. In terms of local attractions, you can visit the Ørland Wetland Centre, a major base for marine scientists, or the historic Austrått Castle. Fishing, biking, and hiking are always popular past times, too.
Airports in Ørland
Ørland Airport (OLA) is the section of Ørland Main Air Station dedicated to civilian passengers. It’s a tiny airport, with space for just 50 passengers at any one time. The runway, air traffic control, and rescue service are all operated by the Royal Norwegian Air Force.
Alternatively you can fly into Trondheim Airport Værnes (TRD), which is two and a half hours from Ørland by car and ferry.

Air Norway (operated by North Flying) are the only airline offering scheduled flights to Ørland, with a daily round trip to Oslo-Gardermoen as well as weekly flights to Aalborg Airport in Denmark. There are far more options if you choose to fly to Trondheim. Direct flights from the UK are offered by Norwegian Air Shuttle, but you can also fly indirect with SAS and KLM.
Getting into Ørland
From Ørland Airport you will probably be heading straight to the major town in the region, Brekstad. Public transport is not available from the airport, but taxis cost around 90-100 NOK* (about £7.80-£8.66).
The easiest way to reach Ørland from Trondheim Airport is by hiring a car and then taking the ferry from Flakk to Rørvik. Sixt, Avis, and Budget all offer car hire direct from the airport.
