Airports in Medellin
There are two airports in Medellin.
José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) is Colombia’s second largest airport. It’s the most important airport in the west of the country, and over the past few years has undergone a range of technological upgrades. Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport (EOH) is a regional and domestic hub, and is the second busiest airport in Colombia.
Airlines that fly to Medellin
International flights arrive at José María Córdova International Airport. At the moment there are no direct flights to Medellin from the UK. You can fly from Europe with Avianca and Iberia from Madrid.
Other airlines serving the airport include Aeromexico, Air Panama, American Airlines, Avianca El Salvador, Avianca Peru, Copa Airlines, Copa Airlines Colombia, Insel Air, JetBlue Airways, LAN Colombia, LAN Peru, Spirit Airlines, and Viva Colombia.
Airlines offering flights to the regional Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport include ADA, Aexpa, Empresa Aérea de Servicios, Satena, and Searca.
Getting into Medellin
José María Córdova International Airport is 18 miles from the city, and takes around 40 minutes to reach. You can take a small bus, which costs 6* thousand pesos (about £1.50)* or take an official airport bus which is 8,600* pesos (about £2.20)*. You can also take a metered taxi from the airport. These usually charge in the region of 54* thousand pesos (about £14)*, but it’s a good idea to ask for an estimate from the driver before you set off.

When to visit Medellin
The best time to visit is from December to February, as this is the dry season. If you visit during December you get the added benefit of seeing the colourful Christmas lights and nightly firework displays.
