Airports in Brasilia
Brasilia International Airport (BSB), or Brasilia-Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport, serves the city. It’s also the most important travel hub for the interior of the Brazil, with around 14 million passengers passing through each year.
The airport is regarded as one of the best in the country in terms of cleanliness, efficiency, and facilities. As well as high speed wi-fi and a VOIP lounge, it also has theatres, gardens, and over 140 shops.
Many internal flights stop off at Brasilia International Airport en route to other cities. The airport only has a few international flight routes, but with a huge expansion project currently under way, it’s likely that more routes will open up in the coming years.
Airlines that Fly to Brasilia
International flights to Brasilia are operated by American Airlines and TAM Airlines from Miami, Delta Airlines from Atlanta, and TAP Portugal from Lisbon.
If you’re planning a South American trip by plane, you’ll be glad to hear that there are a huge number of South American carriers that fly to Brasilia. These include Aerolineas Argentinas, Avianca Costa Rica, Azul Brazilian Airlines, Copa Airlines, Gol Airlines, and Passaredo Linhas Aereas.
Getting into Brasilia
The airport is located just 11km away from the city centre. There are always taxis parked outside the terminal, although they can be more expensive than taxis within the city. The 20 minute taxi journey should cost in the region of R$30-40, but it’s worth confirming with the driver before getting in.
You can also catch an Executive Bus (line 113) to the town centre and hotel district for R$30. The bus runs from 6:30am until 11pm.
Public transport in Brasilia is good because the city was designed with cars in mind, but many residents don’t own a vehicle. From the airport you can catch Line 11 to the Esplanade, Line 31 to W3 North South, and Line 102 into Plano Piloto Bus Station. These buses are much cheaper than the direct airport bus.
If you’re planning on spending a lot of time in Brasilia, it may be worth investing in a hire car. Parking is cheap and abundant in the city, and having your own vehicle will make it easier to get around.
