Discover Falkland Islands

Varied wildlife, gorgeous scenery, and a relaxed rural lifestyle all make the Falkland Islands a fantastic place to visit. Bird watchers will be in heaven. The islands are home to rare species of ducks, penguins, and birds of prey. In the water you’ll spot four species of seal, as well as plenty of dolphins, porpoises, and whales. The Falklands are the main jumping off point for flights to Antarctica, too. If you prefer R&R to hustle and bustle, a trip to the Falklands should definitely be on your agenda.

Airports in the Falkland Islands

RAF Mount Pleasant (MPN) is a British airforce base which also serves as the island’s international airport. It has a longer runway than the only civilian airport, Port Stanley Airport (PSY), and as a result is happy to accept a few civilian flights.

Airlines that fly to the Falkland Islands

The RAF offer non-commercial flights to members of the public, with two flights a week. Space is limited, and as the flights aren’t commercial the times and dates are liable to change at short notice. If you prefer a more traditional style of travel, LAN Airlines offer indirect flights. Both fly into RAF Mount Pleasant.

Getting to your destination

Falkland Island Tours & Travel offer a shuttle bus service which meets all flights and brings visitors into Stanley. Tickets cost £15.* If you’re not staying in Stanley it’s a good idea to pre-book a taxi to meet you on arrival, as the air force base doesn’t have a taxi rank. If you’re staying on another island, take the shuttle into Stanley. From there you can catch a taxi to Port Stanley Airport, where flights to smaller airports in the East and West Falklands are available.
