If you're adventurous, head about 60 miles north to the Indigirka gorge, where you can view incredible rapids by helicopter. These rapids can also be navigated by raft depending on the season. You may also want to visit Tomtor about 120 miles to the south. This is Siberia's Pole of Cold, which experiences some of the chilliest temperatures in the world and is home to the annual Pole of Cold Festival with deer-drawn racing teams and ice fishing.

 

History buffs will want to head about 30 miles south to see one of the few remaining gulags in the region; artifacts are collected in a museum here.
