Discover Bhuj
Once the capital of the Jadeja Rajputs, the petite city of Bhuj remains the largest and most important city of Gujarat’s remote Kutch region. There’s plenty in the way of history and culture, with beautiful palaces, forbidding fortresses, and serene lakes. The impressive Aina Mahal and Pragmahal palaces are a must see, while the region’s local textiles and handicrafts are renowned throughout India. Bhaj makes an excellent base for getting out and discovering the remote areas of Kutch, with beautiful country scenery and pastoral hilltop villages to discover.
Airports in Bhuj
The small, domestic, Bhuj Airport (BHJ) serves the area. In 1971 the airport was destroyed by napalm dropped by Pakistani bombers. Over the course of two weeks the airfield was raided 22 times. All but destroyed, the airport was then rebuilt by 300 women from a nearby village; and it only took them 72 hours.
