If you’re looking for a paradise island to spend a few blissful weeks on, look no further than Cayo Coco. Set in Cuba’s Jardines del Rey archipelago, Cayo Coco has everything you could possibly want from a chilled out holiday. It may not have much in the way of history and culture, but when it comes to luxurious resorts and pristine beaches, it punches well above its weight.

Jardines del Rey Airport (CCC) serves both Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, another paradise island with just a few all-inclusive resorts and some peaceful beaches.

Airlines that fly to Cayo Coco

Thomas Cook Airlines offer seasonal flights direct from a range of UK airports. Other airlines offering seasonal flights from European airports are EuroAtlantic Airways from Lisbon, and Blue Panorama Airlines from Milan.

Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Air Transat, Cubana de Aviacion, Sunwing Airlines and WestJet offer flights from a range of Canadian airports, with Cubana de Aviacion also offering flights from Buenos Aires and Havana. Aerogaviota and Aero Caribbean operate domestic flights to Cayo Coco from other Cuban cities.

Getting to your destination

Public transport isn’t available from the airport. Many of the hotels and resorts on Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo offer shuttle transfers for their guests. It’s worth checking with your accommodation to find out if this service is available. It’s also possible to pre-book shuttle transfer with a range of private companies.

If you don’t have a shuttle organised, you’ll find plenty of taxis outside the terminal building. From the airport to the main resorts on Cayo Coco you should expect to pay 15-25 CUC (about £10-£16)*, and for Cayo Guillermo it’s more likely to be in the region of 40-45 CUC (around £26-£29)*. When to fly to Cayo Coco

Cuba’s dry season lasts from November to April, and is generally considered the best time to visit. If rain doesn’t bother you, there are great bargains to be had during the wet season (May until October). High season is generally around March and April. This is when the weather is at its best, but on the downside prices are higher during these months.
