I have to handle this sweet dish for the sake of tasting the most popular Yogyakarta cuisine and moreover, Gudeg Yu Djum is one whose recipe has been used for years, so that’s why any food lover out there is better not to skip Gudeg Yu Djum when visiting Yogyakarta. It’s worth trying.

This place is supposedly THE place to try Yogya’s famous Gudeg, a stew made from jackfruit and then served with chicken or duck or other meats. We wanted to try it so we ventured here. The palce itself is nothing special but it’s very busy with locals which is always a good sign. We tried the Gudeg but I wasn’t a big fan as it is very sweet, like a lot of Indonesian food. I guess it’s a good place if you like Gudeg though.

Gudeg is the famous local Jogja dish and Gudeg Yu Djum is one of the most well-known places to have it. They food can be found at a few different places around town. The gudeg is actually young jack fruit which they cook up in a sweet style. Worth trying while you are here.

This is a matter of preference. Gudeg Yu Djum is the sweet gudeg, one of the local traditional dishes. It consist of a few dishes such as young jackfruit stew, chicken/egg, bean cake or tempe, etc. However, the general taste is sweet, which I personally don’t like with rice. However, this joint is know to bring nice ‘sweet gudeg’. The most fascinating thing about the place is the serving and the kitchen. It’s a sight to be seen with posts and pans over numerous stoves boiling together. Not to mention pots and pots of food, still made traditionally. It’s a delicious sight.
