billboards for which it is famous. Originally outside the borders of Los Angeles proper, Sunset Strip played host to casinos and speakeasies during Prohibition, attracting the young, rich people from the burgeoning film industry. That reputation for glitz and glamour has not abated today. You can catch a show at The Viper room or the Whisky a Go Go or have a sandwich at Rainbow Bar and Grill or one of the Strip's other famous celebrity haunts.

Not sure what the hype is about the sunset strip. Huge tourist trap and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

So many shop and restaurants to visit on the Sunset Strip. Also home of Whiskey a Go Go and Viper Room. Lots of celebs floating around. Great area to visit.

Sunset Strip in West Hollywood is a stretch of road where you will find an assortment of night clubs and restaurants, many of which you are no doubt familiar with, such as Whiskey A Go-Go. The House of Blues appears to have shut down. You can also find Pink's Tacos in this area as well.

When in Los Angeles you have to go down "the strip". There are all different kinds of sights including the tourists and locals. The atmosphere changes from day to night so it is better if you are not alone.

The Sunset Strip is a very fun place in Hollywood to enjoy shopping, dining, and nightlife. There are fantastic hotels along this stretch, as well as high-end restaurants and bars.

Famous Sunset Strip, dotted with venues such as The House of Blues, The Laugh Factory, Saddle Ranch, The Viper Room, The Comedy Store, The Standard, Mel's Drive In, and so much more!

The renowned Sunset Strip. Drive north on Highland to Sunset and take a left to start your journey along the famed strip. One of the oldest and original streets in Los Angeles, it will take you all the way to the beach. Along the way, capture lots of iconic places like Tower Records, Sunset Plaza, the beautiful mansions of Beverly Hills, or stop and eat at one of many restaurants along the way. Maybe you'll bump into someone famous!

Park at Sunset Plaza, in the back, and walk around. A couple of good restaurants. Good for lunch and late night.

No other place says as loudly, colorfully, spectacularly Hollywood as the Sunset Strip. Take the half-mile walk (about 10 minutes) up La Brea, turn left and start your journey of discovery. Start with small shops and eateries (now and then run into a famous one, e.g. the landmark Moun of Tunis or the new Aroma Cafe), the Guitar Shop that harkens to the birth of Rock and Roll, then the famous (infamous?) Chateau Marmont, then cross over to shops and eateries featured in the gossip columns thanks to celebrity sightings.

An iconic place to visit but the evening is best by far, otherwise there is too much traffic to be able to relax. A great range of shops and places to eat and wide pavements for strolling - take a look at all of the guitars on the street to see who they are there to remember

If you are looking for a place to go out: sunset strip. Still the place to be with all the famous (and less famous) clubs. Personal favorite is the house of blues.

The Sunset Strip has a storied history, and so visitors are often disappointed to find there is not much to see here as a visitor. A number of the historic clubs are still here, including the Whiskey a Go Go (made famous by the Doors in the 60s, who were the house band) or the Viper Room, so you can come take in a show or grab a few cocktails. But don't come expecting to bump into a rock legend. The center of the music scene has shifted more to Silverlake and Hollywood.

Lot's of fun. If you haven't been, and you are in Los Angeles, this is first on the list. You haven't really seen LA until you've been there at least once.

When our friends come into town they all want to go down Sunset Strip. They soon realize it like cruising any main street in America. Nothing really to see, but the people watching is fun.
The bars and restaurants are over priced to get the tourist crowns and not generally worth it.

The 1.7 mile stretch of Sunset Boulevard between Crescent Heights and Doheny Drive is the Sunset Strip. On one side are the Hollywood Hills; on the other side is a panorama of part of the Los Angeles Basin. It is a mix of nightclubs, hotels, restaurants, boutiques and outsized billboards.

The Strip became famous during Prohibition. Isolated from Los Angeles and Hollywood by distance and surrounded by orchards, no one paid serious attention to it. The Los Angeles police lacked jurisdiction and the county sheriffs weren't particularly interested. Speakeasies and brothels therefore sprang up and flourished in the Strip's taverns and private homes. They have evolved into today's Sunset Strip.

Parking is tight and costly. It's only semi-walkable, but if you plan your trip right you can hit up a bar, do dinner and see a show without having to drive around. Not my favorite part of Los Angeles, but certainly not the worst.

I would spend a night checking out a comedy show, or one of the live concert spots. For a James Bond of a time head into one of the hotels for cocktail.
