Germantown

Learn about The Society of the Cincinnati, The American Revotution Institute, take a free tour of this 1905 mansion which was the winter home for one of the richest couples in America, see their collection from around the world. Well worth the stop. Also, attend lectures, concerts, and other activities.

Falls Church

Built in 1905, until 1938 the gorgeous Dupont Circle mansion now known as ‘Anderson House’ was home to wealthy philanthropists Larz and Isabel Anderson – and still houses some of their original furniture and artwork. Today the location is the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati (a group which works to honor Americans who fought for independence during the American Revolution) and has been converted into a museum – and best of all, admission is free (museum is open Tuesday- Saturday from 1-4 pm).

This house (palace) is very pretty. The decorations inside are impressive, and the house itself is a testament to the wealth accumulated by the Anderson family. The house itself is worth a visit, but the tours of the house make this a must see. I learned an amazing amount about U.S. history due to the ties of the house to the Society of Cincinnati. The museum is free, but has limited hours. It is a great hidden gem.

Nothing special. Historical house that has a continued history hosting an elite society type organization. Has guided tours, but can also walk around independently.
