Description
Strange and amazing, unlikely and enviable, the life of Alexander Hamilton could be a blueprint for the evolution of Washington, DC. This is a man who started off an orphan and ended up a lawyer, ... Read more
banker and founding father before dying famously in a duel with the Vice President of the United States. First built to house the federal government, DC is now a city where polish and sophistication have been charmed by a bohemian spirit yielding a new, thriving, artistic underground. Located just two blocks from the White House, the District's newest destination for envelope-pushing, visionary music and talent defies convention, much like Hamilton himself. The Hamilton is a 37,000 square feet, 500-seat restaurant and live entertainment venue offering three dining rooms, three bars and seven separate menus. The restaurant offers seasonal and regional American cuisine, for brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, as well as a sushi menu. The Hamilton Live is the lower level 300-seat live music and entertainment venue offering nightly entertainment from local, national and international musicians.

I came with a large group during the busiest time of the day. Somehow, they accommodated all 19 of us, even though we didn't make reservations. The building is absolutely beautiful and gave us a nice, cool place to stop during the hot DC weather. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the city, both local and visitor.

A vibrant neighborhood next to the Willard and the White House. The restaurant was lively with a great deal of energy. Food and atmosphere were nice.

This place is huge! I think i walked through 3 rooms just to get to the restroom. We are here for lunch and it was so good that we came back for dinner another night. They also have a wide variety of food... They even have their own sushi chef and you can even sit at their sushi bar instead of the regular restaurant or bar. At night they play live music in the basement. I thought the food was great! And it's located right next to the white house of you are feeling touristy.

Excellent restaurant right around the corner from the White House. Very spacious dinning space with lots of wood paneling and interesting art work gives it a cool ambiance. Food was excellent. Definitely recommend the Chesapeake sugar toads (fried pufferfish) and the squid-ink bucatini.

I was probably here for about 2 hours, and all I wanted was a drink and dessert. No, I didn't enjoy The Hamilton so much I wanted to spend 2 hours eating dessert here. Service was that slow.

In any case, in this instance, I was a believer in, as long as I reach my goal, which was snagging dessert late night and still being able to metro home, I was happy. I had to catch the 3:00 am train after arriving at The Hamilton at 12:30 am or so, but I still made my train! If I would have been forced to take a taxi home, this would have been a whole different review.

Back to the food, after going to a show at Riot Act Comedy, and being quite disappointed in their chocolate cake, I was craving some real dessert, so I suggested we head to The Hamilton.

As soon as we got our menu, I immediately went scanning for the dessert, but apparently it's on a separate menu, so I quickly notified my waiter I wouldn't be needing the "fish" menu, or the regular menu, I just wanted some sugar!

The Fluffer Nutter Bar immediately caught my attention, though I was hesitant to order it, because the last peanut butter dessert I had was from Serendipity 3, and that thing still gives me nightmares. I was so happy I convinced my self no other place can be as horrid as Serendipity 3, because that Fluffer Nutter Bar was amazing. It was basically a Nutter Butter Bar in mousse form. Genius. I was this close to literally ordering a second serving, because I ate that thing so fast, but I decided to order a side of fries so I could use grease to soak up all the sugar in my body.

This is the point where the slow service really became apparent. I had finished my dessert and my friend had a lot of her dessert left, so I wanted to order fries to eat while she finished her dessert. My waiter would disappear for lengths at a time, but still must have passed us 5 times without making eye contact with me, and I felt like I was going to have to shout at her, or jump out in front of her to make her notice me. I didn't get a chance to order my fries until after my friend had already finished her dessert. Fail.

We then split the check, and our waiter mixed up our cards and charged my friend for my food, and vice versa. Not a big deal because it was only a $10 difference and I'll definitely just buy my friend lunch at a later date.

Awful service, awesome desserts.

How a restaurant so cavernous - seriously, this place was like Forever 21 in Union Square - can be consistently packed night after night is a mystery to me, but The Hamilton seems to be a working business model. I came here for a work dinner, and while the waitress was quick to order drinks and appetizers, the service after that was extremely slow. When it did finally come out, though, I really enjoyed my shrimp pasta dish, so points for that.

They have a sushi bar and a regular bar here as well, and the general clientele is a lot of suits drinking martinis. But it's a decent place for big plates of comfort food if you can afford to have a leisurely lunch or dinner.

This restaurant is large and serves typical American dishes, burgers, steaks, sandwiches, etc. It has a place where they have live music and a few bars. Food is OK. Location was good.
