Lovely DC hotel with a very rich history in the nations capitol. The rooms are clean and updated, given the age of the establishment. The service and staff is excellent, and I have stayed there on a number of occasions. The hotel itself also makes for a great meeting and conference venue. The central location makes it convenient to all the major DC attractions (the National Geographic Museum is just a block away), and a quick stroll to the DC Metro rail.

East Haven

We arrived during a heat wave. The AC wasn't working well, rooms were warm. Our TV didn't work. Our room was in the front with a view of everything. Old but not worn. A bit dark. Asked for a TV when we came back from investigating where we were. TV off in 1/2 the rooms. They would move us.
Very small room. Window 5 feet from brick wall.
Cockroaches.
When we left we quietly told the clerk at the desk and he replied we were mistaken.
Oh, the TV only lasted a couple hours and it too shut off.
Beautiful building. Great area.

This is a hotel with one of the best beds I have ever slept in. The service meets the expectations of a 5 star hotel; however, the best thing is its location (walking distance to the White House). I will definitely stay here again.

The Mayflower has one of DC's best restaurants - Edgar. The Edgar's bar is always busy with business travelers and members of The Hill. It has a scandalous past which makes it one of the best places to see the movers and shakers of D.C.

Did you know Washington slept here? OK, not really. But Eliot Spitzer did! George Washington was just his pseudonym.
Seriously, the Mayflower has been the site of presidential inaugural balls since the 1920s – marble, mirrors and chandeliers put on a dazzling display of luster and shine.
Some rooms are bigger than others, so ask about that when you call. Higher floors give you a better view of the city, and if you get a suite, you can see it from your private terrace!
The restaurant, Café Promenade, is closed for renovations, so meals are being served in the Lounge, an open seating area that allows you to see who’s coming and going. Morton's Steakhouse is a stone's throw away, and Obelisk is five blocks or one Metro stop away. It's pretty highly rated, but I got a really gristly piece of veal when I went, and the waiter didn't offer any solutions, so I didn't go back.

Very well situated hotel, just a bit north of the White House. The lobby is a bit overwhelming, as it is very high and extends seemingly endless. Rooms where large, with good quality beds/mattresses, a nice bathroom. The breakfast was good with a lot of choice, although you should know that you can ask for what is not displayed. Service is good, but not exceptional. The hotel does lack a bit in atmosphere.

While it's a regal hotel, with rooms that offer posh bedding and marble bathrooms, the Mayflower is most renowned for its role in pop culture. J Edgar Hoover dined here daily for 20 years, and NY governor Eliot Spitzer trysted here with a hooker (derailing his career).

I really wanted to like this place. Beautiful and historic lobby. But check in and check out were a disaster and I found the staff apathetic at best. Rooms are large but this hotel is long over due for renovations - rooms are outdated and dumpy. I was the guest of a conference and they had booked me a higher end room. Don't know what they paid but you can do better in DC.

Bottom line great place to have breakfast and grab a drink. Horrible place to stay.

It has all the embellishments of a luxury hotel and a history to go with it but, for me at least, it lacks a unique touch that would separate it from its luxury cousin competitors. My dining experience at the Mayflower has been very ordinary - food that is acceptable and service that is erratic.
