Virginia Holidays

While Pocahontas may not have actually broken out into song at the sight of John Smith as the English settled into what would later be called Jamestown, Disney’s interpretation of Virginia as a place of natural majesty was wholly accurate. Forests cover over half of the state, filled with a myriad of wildlife, including black bears and foxes. And ... Read more
while none of these creatures sung songs either, there’s certainly a harmony that comes from the 30 national parks in the state. County fairs and festivals serve as inviting attractions for visitors, celebrating the local culture, art and cuisine. Virginia Beach, a popular beachfront city, offers miles of coastline, as well as cozy shops and local restaurants. And while Capt. Smith might recognize the coast at Jamestown, though now proliferated with tourists, he most definitely wouldn’t be able to tell the Pentagon from a spaceship.

weather year-round compared to Northern Virginia. The Western and Southwestern Mountain regions have similar temperatures -- 24-45 (-4-7) in January and 60-87 (15-31) in July -- but the Southwestern mountains see more rain. Summer can get a little sticky with humidity: head to higher elevations for cooler air. No matter where you go, be sure to pack an umbrella since the state gets plenty of rain, and keep an eye on the weather for the occasional tropical storm.

Just passing thru. Wish I hadve known that cigarettes were $5 a pack here and $11 a pack where I am now. I would have stocked up.

I guess I was a little underwhelmed when I came to Virginia. I thought climate wise it'd be similar to California but it was way different that expected, almost like when I was in Alabama. Great historical state, tons of history. Was just a little stressful when out in the heat and humidity.
